Is it Time to Panic - Week Two

Manchester City 1- 0 Arsenal
Arsenal came off a mid-week victory over Dinamo Zagreb to secure a spot in the group stage of the Champions League. The other teams selected to their group are CSKA Moskva, Porto and Hamburg. This will be a tough group to play in. After this weekends performance against Man City it will even be tougher.

The match took place in Manchester this weekend. Arsenal with only one point from the first week could have put themselves in a good position gaining 3. Having beaten City in every match for the better part of the past decade, this would be their first fall. Manchester City would end up winning this match on a Joey Barton Penalty in the 40th minute to finish it off 1-0. It was a bad day for Arsenal fans. The team looked flat footed and couldn't pass a ball for shit. Let's hope when we return from the International Weekend that we get it together.

Charlton 2 - 0 Bolton
Two red cards and two goals by Bent seal this match up for Charlton getting their first points of the season. Charlton were reduced to 10 men when Hermann Hreidarsson was sent off for elbowing Kevin Davies. Davies was then sent off for elbowing Amady Faye, and Bent put the PK away to seal the victory and three points.

Fulham 1 - 0 Sheff Utd
In the 40th minute Jimmy Bullard curled a free kick to the upper left hand corner past Paddy Kenny to give Fulham the 1 Nill victory. These were Fulham's first three points of the season. Not a very exciting match to see but a crowd of about 18,000 were on hand for this one.

Liverpool 2 - 1 West Ham
Zamora scored and early goal in the 11th minute to put the Hammers up 1-0. In the span of three minutes, Liverpool would draw and take the lead of this match. Defender Dan Agger scored on a beautiful shot in the 41st followed up by a Peter Crouch goal in the 44th. Dirk Kuyt, the new signing for Liverpool, came in midway through the second half and created a lot of good opportunities.

Tottenham 0 - 2 Everton
The match of the week as far as I'm concerned. Any time Spurs lose, it's the match of the week. The match was well played to 0-0 going into the half. Everton's Kevin Kilbane sent off for two bookable offences after only 32 minutes leaving the team to play with only 10 men. Calum Davenport turned Joleon Lescott's header into his own net after 53 minutes to put Everton in front. Andy Johnson slid home Phil Neville's cross to seal the win 13 minutes later. Still 2 points ahead of Arsenal in the table but that won't last.

Watford 1 - 2 Man Utd
Sitting top of the table for the moment, Man Utd have played some pretty impressive football without Wayne Rooney in the line-up. United had taken the lead on 12 minutes when Louis Saha set up Mikael Silvestre to drive low into the corner. But Watford did not roll over and Damien Francis levelled before half-time from Ashley Young's cross. In his 600th appearence for Man Utd Ryan Giggs scored the winner on a pass from Darren Fletcher.

Wigan 1 - 0 Reading
Heskey, who had earlier headed against the post, latched on to Lee McCulloch's flick and slotted the ball past Readings keeper Marcus Hahnemann. This was the first goal for Emile Heskey since February. Wigan played a tight D to hold this one to the final whistle.

Aston Villa 2 - 0 Newcastle
Martin O'Neil has had a pretty good start to his campaign with the Villans. Luke Moore pounced after Newcastle failed to clear a free-kick and slotted in a low shot to put Villa ahead.
Juan Pablo Angel ran on to a subtle Gabriel Agbonlahor pass and side-footed home to double the lead. Villa have now taken 7 of 9 points on the season.

Blackburn 0 - 2 Chelsea
After losing at Middlesbrough in midweek, Chelsea had looked out of sorts before they took an early second-half lead thanks to a penalty. Andre Ooijer was penalized for holding John Terry and Frank Lampard put the penalty past Brad Friedel. Substitute Didier Drogba inflicted more misery on Ooijer when he shrugged off the Dutchman before putting a shot past Friedel for the second goal.
